GIVING THANKS CAN BE THE GREATEST GIFT OF ALL
Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) is excited to be launching a
Christmas campaign in December. The focus of the campaign will be on giving the
biggest thanks possible to our amazing teachers.
To make the campaign more special, students have the chance to be part of it.
MACS has created an online form at www.macsbiggestthanks.com, where students
can write a message of thanks to the teacher who has helped them to flourish,
whether by igniting their passion in a certain subject or by inspiring them to believe in themselves.
Not only will the messages of thanks be shared with teachers, but some of the
students’ messages will appear on billboards around Melbourne and in future
communications. We need parent/carer/guardian consent in the online form to give
students the chance of having their message used in this way.
The form will be open until Friday, 1st December. We look forward to seeing the
messages of joy and positivity from students.
CLASSES 2024
Organisation of classes at St Peter's follows these steps.
- Students name 5 fellow students that they believe they will work well with.
- Teachers then create classes for next year taking into consideration
- Separations recommended by previous teachers
- Separations recommended by current teachers
- Balance of boys and girls
- Balance of academic abilities with particular focus on spread of children with specific learning needs
- Balance of different personalities
- Students choices
- Once these classes are created they are checked by our Learning Diversity leader, our Literacy Leader, Numeracy Leader and our Teaching and Learning Leader against the data they have on the students to ensure academic balance.
- A couple of sessions are held in these groups for teachers to evaluate them as a learning group.
- The completed lists are provided to me with information that identifies previous class experiences. In this step I consider the following.
- If I have moved a teacher from a lower grade into a higher grade how many children in each class would repeat that teacher if they were in that teacher's class.
- As half our classes are shared teacher classes and half are one teacher classes, I aim for each student to have 3 or 4 years, of their primary schooling in a shared grade and half in a single teacher's grade
- I aim to have as many students as possible experience a male teacher in their time in primary school. As students head into senior grades the created class with the largest number of children who haven't had a male teacher are likely to have a male teacher.
As you can see this is a long detailed process that begins at the start of Term Four. The process does not have a place for parents to request specific teachers, student pairings, student separations or for parents to request changes once classes are decided.
I hope this gives background for the long and detailed process we follow at St Peter’s.
Our commitment is to put students in the best learning environment possible. While friendships are relevant they are the final consideration when creating classes. Ultimately parents choose St Peter’s because they believe in all we provide and that our commitment to our students will always be our focus.

YEAR 3 EXCURSION TO NATIONAL GALLERY OF VICTORIA
On Tuesday, 21st November the Year 3s went to the National Gallery of Victoria. We went on a bus to get there and my partner was Alexia.
I was put into the Yellow Group, so I went to the John Brown Collection first. My favourite painting from this collection was a painting like a black hole but colourful. It was so cool I felt like painting a picture there and then. Secondly, I went to the Hermannsburg Exhibition. I really enjoyed this exhibit because the paintings were really deep. We also went to:
- The Wuharra Murra Exhibition
- The 19th century exhibition
I also had a browse at all the exhibitions!
My favourite exhibition was the . . .
JOHN BROWN EXHIBITION
After eating our food outside, we walked across the Yarra and went to the playground. The Playground (Birrarung Marr) was such a blast, but I couldn’t wait to roll down the humongous hill! When I first rolled down the hill I JUST. KEPT. ROLLING!! I loved every part of it but I was relieved when we went to The Yarra to do a drawing of something around us. I drew Swanston Street Bridge.
My favourite part of the excursion was when I was with my friends on the playground, rolling down the hill and doing mindful drawing!

On Tuesday, 21st November, the Year 3s travelled into the city on a bus to see some amazing artworks that some amazing artists have painted. All the Year 3s got split into groups and we all took a look at different collections of artists.
After demolishing a scrumptious meal of food my group firstly took a look at the 19th Century collection. Suddenly my eye spotted a really interesting painting. The artwork was named The Pioneer and the artist was named Fredrick Mccubbin.
After looking at more collections named:
- The Joseph Brown Collection
- Hermannsburg
- Wurddha Marra
All of the Year 3s ate some lunch. We took a walk beside the Yarra River. Half of us rolled down a hill and the other half played on the colourful playground.
20 Minutes later we had to walk back to the NGV and waited for our buses. But instead of waiting Ms McNamara showed us some entertainment by challenging us with quizzes. Finally our bus came and drove us back to school.
WHAT A PHENOMENAL DAY!

ST. PETER'S HOUSE SPORTS
The 17th of November was a very fun day. It was the St. Peter's Sports Carnival! After going down to Centenary Park we split into boys and girls as well as our colours, Green, Red, Gold and Blue.
We competed in multiple events including, Relay, Shot Put, Sprints, Hurdles, Vortex and Frisbee. Singing our chants and cheering our team mates on, it was a great but tiring day.
The four houses competed against each other in the sporting events. Each team tried their hardest in each event and at the end, the whole school sat impatiently, waiting for the results.
The Green Team cheered loudly when Mr Mac announced that they had won. The Year 6s from Green House went up to receive the special plaque.
We would like to thank the staff of St. Peter’s who woke up early to prepare this exciting day for us.

Final results:
1st = Green
2nd = Red
3rd = Blue
4th = Gold
Year 5 Rugby Day
On the 24th of November the Year Fives participated in a Rugby Tag Day at Centenary Park. Classes competed against each other trying their best to score and win. Every team gave it their best effort using their skills to grab tackles.
Overall, the Year Fives were amazing. In the girls competition 5HG won all their games and came out first. In the boys competition, 5AC and 5HG drew for first place. Great effort by everyone.
Thank you to all the teachers who gave up their time to help us have a fun day for all of the Year Fives. A massive thank you to Mr Cavara for choosing Year Fives out of any year level!!
