Dear St. Peter’s Parents and Guardians,
I hope you all had a fantastic long weekend.
P&F Trivia Night
Our Parents & Friends have their annual trivia event this Saturday with this year’s theme being 'Denim & Diamonds'. This is a wonderful event every year. I would like to thank all members of our P&F who put in a huge amount of volunteer work to improve our school.
Year 5 & 6 Performance - Tuesday, 18th June
Coming up next week we have the Year 5 & 6 performances. These are fantastic nights for our students and a great way to see the different skills that many of our students have. The Year 5 performance begins at 6pm and the Year 6 performance begins at 7pm, both in our School Hall.
Inspiration Day
Anna Pullan our Acting Wellbeing Leader has put a great deal of work into an upcoming day entitled ‘Inspiration Day’. As a school on Friday, 21st of June. Students are invited to dress up as someone who inspires them, e.g. police officer, author, doctor, nurse, fire fighter, family member, teacher, principal, athlete, singer etc. This should be a fantastic day for our students to show who truly inspires them.
Dogs on School Grounds
Dogs are an important part of life for many St Peter’s families, and as such, are often included in day-to-day activities such as walking children to and from school.
While the school appreciates this inclusion and values pet ownership as an educational experience, it also acknowledges other families (and individuals) can find contact with dogs stressful, even frightening.
For this reason we have a Dog Management Policy which applies particularly at pick up and drop off times.
If you have a dog that you walk at drop off and pick up time please read the Policy below carefully. Thank you for your cooperation.

In Term two, the Year 3-6 students have been working on their Year Level Performance! Here's a quick reminder of those dates which also contains information about what to wear and the running process of the evenings.
The performance dates are as follows:
Year 3/4 Performances - “Fractured Fairytales”
-
Year 3: Tuesday, 25th June at 6pm
-
Year 4: Tuesday, 25th June at 7pm
Year 5/6 Performances - “The Dark Ages Were Weird”
-
Year 5: Tuesday, 18th June at 6pm
-
Year 6: Tuesday, 18th June at 7pm
We ask that students assemble at the 3ES classroom 15 minutes prior to their performance. They can access the room through the breezeway and via the street entrance, and staff will be there to usher them in.
The hall will open for audience members 10 minutes before showtime. Entry is free.
Costumes are easy this year - I ask for all students to be dressed in black clothes: tracksuits, jeans, t-shirts, jumpers, pullovers, shoes, etc. It is preferred that students do not have prints on their clothing, but if it can’t be avoided, that’s fine. Additions to the clothing will be given to the students before they go on stage.
The run time for each performance will be about 35 minutes.
This is a great opportunity for the students to show you what they’ve been working on, and I look forward to seeing you all there on the evenings.

Bebras Challenge - Round 1
The Bebras challenge is open twice a year to Australian Students in Years 3-12, and engages students' computational thinking and problem solving skills in a fun, interactive environment.
Started in 2004 by Professor Valentina Dagiene from the University of Vilnius, 'Bebras' is Lithuanian for beaver. This refers to their collaborative nature and strong work ethic.
Each challenge has 15 questions with the highest possible score being 135 points. The level of difficulty of a question determines how it will be scored. Easy questions are worth 6 points, medium questions are worth 9 points, and hard questions are worth 12 points. Any incorrect or unanswered questions are awarded zero points.
The Bebras achievement level breakdown is as follows:
- Participation 0-59 points
- Merit 60-86 points
- Credit 87-101 points
- Distinction 102-113 points
- High Distinction 114-134 points

YEAR 4 EXCURSION TO SALESIAN COLLEGE
Salesian was amazing! First, we got to do a Liverpool clinic, which was fantastic. We did a game where we had to go through gates and see how many we could go through; it was so fun!
Then we did Art. We used plasticine. We got to make monsters, trust me, they were scary! I made a lumberjack monster and I didn’t forget I had to make a tree. We had to do a gallery walk and saw some crazy little things, they were creative monsters.
Next, we did Science, it was the best! We got to do this Bunsen burner; it was cool! We put in all different liquid metals. The coolest one was…copper because it was a maroon, green two-tone colour. It created a green lightsabre flame. After that we got to do this thing where we took an egg off a gum leaf and there was a little bug. It was called a ‘lerp’. It was really cool and they were so small! We then mixed vinegar and baking soda and it created carbon dioxide and it blew up the balloon. Some of us discovered that if you put in more vinegar, it goes bigger. I thought that it was going to pop!
We left the science room and went to have lunch and there was a great band. They played dinosaur old songs but that was okay because we got to do a conga line. I did the worm for a bit, but it hurt my chest. Then we had to leave but it was okay because we had a fun bus ride. My favourite part was the music - it was exquisite! But there was something better than that, soccer!
By Zayne Yiangoulli
Salesian was FANTASTIC! On the bus my partner was Stella. I couldn’t wait to get off. When we hopped off, I was AMAZED! It was so big! First, we took a group photo.
Then after that my group went to do Liverpool soccer on the big green ovals. Our coach made us choose a partner. I went with Neve. We had to run through the gates first, kick the ball to the other second. Then lastly, my FAVOURITE part, we played soccer. We got split into two teams. I was in team Nikes.
Next, we did Art, one of my favourite parts. We made plasticine MONSTERS! I made six characters. It was monster-riffic!
For our last activity, we did SCIENCE! We put these big lab coats on and safety glasses. We saw the Bunsen burner and the fire turn different depending on the chemical added. We saw vinegar and baking soda fill a balloon with air. Then we took these egg things called ‘lerps’ off leaves to release INSECTS! YUCK!
Lastly, we saw a band. Their performance was great! At the end we received a show bag with a fidget spinner, a lolly pop and some photos. Then we left. GOODBYE!

MY Excursion to Salesian Secondary College
As I walk up the stairs getting off the bustling bus, I get shivers. I’m at a HIGH SCHOOL! I’ve never thought that a school could be this big! When I walked up the stairs, I could see the boys. I see 15 year old boys! When I get to the exotic hall, they tell us what we're going to do! We were going to do art, and make sculptures, science, and we were going to use gas! We're going to play sports, with a professional Liverpool coach! I can’t wait. But first, we've got to take photos. As I see the high school boys in their classes, they look deadly bored. I think we're going to start doing the activities!
Finally! We're going to start! We start off with making our art sculptures! We’ve got to make monsters. First, we had to warm up the plasticine and that didn't take me too long. My colours were purple and red. I used purple as my base colour and red for my decoration. At first, I thought that I was going to make a 2 headed monster but then a lady [the photographer] told me that an octopus would look cooler, so I made that and it looked breathtaking! I couldn't wait to show my teacher! After that we had to wash my hands. At 10:30am we had a snack. It was delightful!
After art we did science! When we got into the room, I saw very sciency things, a lab coat and some safety goggles! At the start, we learnt about the chemical reaction of elephant toothpaste. We did that by adding potassium hydroxide and food colouring to liquid detergent. It made something called elephant's toothpaste! It was hot and bubbly and it was super cool!
Then we were told what we would do for biology, which was using a microscope to see what’s inside of a eucalyptus leaf! First, I got to make a chemical reaction to what happens if you mix baking soda with vinegar in a jar and then put a balloon on top. It blew up a balloon, it was intriguing to watch! After that we got to do biology. I got a microscope to see into a leaf and I saw this white liquid that looked like bird poop! Ew! Then I saw an identity bug that my friends tried to draw!
After we got to do sport with the Liverpool coach, we did soccer! First, we did some warmups. We had to run through cones and our partner counted how many we ran through. The first time I got 29 and the second time 26. After that we did it with balls. The first time I got 10 and the second 15. When we had done the tiring warmups, we played a 20-minute game. The first half my team was losing but because I got moved into the other team we won! I felt exotic, I was beaming with joy!
Then we had lunch and we got to see a band! The first song was brilliant, then in the second song we were up dancing and in the third song we did konga!
Overall, it was an amazing experience, the art, science and the spot! It was exquisite! I wish I could go there for high school, but I can’t because I’m a girl.

At Salesian High School last Friday, I got to see the school. Before we went to the different activities, we had a little chat with the grades 7 and 9 to see what they do there. They talked about the activities and they were art, science and soccer. It was fun.
At art we made some monsters and I made a whale monster. Then, we talked about the best ways to make some monsters and it was so fun.
Next, we went to science and we looked at a Bunsen burner and we put different metals in it and it changed colours. Then we went to have some experiences everywhere it was fun.
At soccer, we did some drills made by the Liverpool Soccer Team coach and it was fun. Then a band played for us. I loved it.

On Friday, 31st May all the Year 4 students went to Salesian College for a High School experience.
While we were there we did some science experiments including blowing up a balloon and looking through a microscope. We even saw bugs.
In soccer we had to go around cones while running and then with a soccer ball.
In art we made funny monsters out of plasticine.
At the end we watched a performance with five students in a band.
It was so much fun!!

On Tuesday the Year 3 students went to CERES to learn about how to protect the environment.
In one activity, we learnt the water cycle and why diagonal speed humps are diagonal.
In the second activity, we made seed balls to grow Warragul Greens.
In the third, we did netting and my group caught a fresh water snail!
We all had a great time and the owners of CERES were named Geoff, Rebecca, Niamh and Harriet.
It was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On Tuesday the Year 3s went to CERES. Firstly, we had to get to school really early and get on a bus. The bus took 1 hour and 10 minutes. When we got there, there were three activities.
My first activity was a water walk. In the water walk we went around and found diagonal speed bumps. There were orange cones next to them, water went through the diagonal speed bumps and into other places. Then we had a break and ate some fruit
Our next activity was the habitat listen where we sat on rocks and listened to all the animals in the habitat. We also did a habitat survey and went around looking for food sources, water and shelter for insects, mammals, amphibians and reptiles.
Lastly, we went and looked for bugs in the wetland creek. I was in a group with Zach, Milla and Olly. All of us took turns using our net to get some microorganisms. Sadly, we didn’t catch any, but it didn’t really matter. When we were done, we went back to base and played on the playground and packed up. We got on the bus for an hour to get back to school. At the end of the day, I was happy to go home but I wanted to do more activities.

On Tuesday all of Year Three went to CERES. All of Year Three got into groups. I was in the red group with my friend, luckily. My Mum came to the excursion as well. When we got to CERES, we met all of the instructors, the red group’s instructor was a girl and her name was Harriet.
Red groups first station was netting. What we did was try to catch lots of different underwater sea creatures not like sharks or things like that, it was just things like tadpoles and sea snails and many other mini sea creatures. Our little group caught three mosquito fish and one sea snail. After that we went to our next station which was learning about the Merri Merri Creek. We also went to two other places in CERES in that station. In indigenous language Marri was another word for Rocky, so that technically means that the Merri Merri Creek is also known as the Rocky, Rocky Creek.
In the first little place that we went to was this really cool space with seats around it. When we sat down on the bench we all got given a little poster and the poster all had to be related to water. One by one we layed down our poster to show us how water gets into the ocean or sea through pipes. It was very interesting. The next little place in that station was actually right next to the place before. We all got given a cup and my teacher poured some water out of the watering can. After we all got some water, we went in a line and poured the water on to this concrete but it’s actually called a cement rock and as soon as I put the water on the cement rock, all of the water disappeared. It was CRAZY! After that, we had lunch and played on the cool playground that they had at CERES.
Later that day, we went on a bushwalk and found this beautiful ecosystem and we did this fun little drawing activity. Afterwards, we got this poster that told us about what amphibians need in a habitat. Not only did we have to read it but we also had to try and find the things as well. Then we made this cool type of clay plant and I put dirt in and a seed that will soon turn into a beautiful plant. After that we got our bags and started to go on the bus.
I loved CERES so much I really want to go there again soon!
By Hollie Thompson 3AM
On Tuesday we had an excursion to CERES recycling centre. We got to do loads of fun activities. But first we had to get there when we (Year 3 classes) went on the bus. We did anything for entertainment. It actually was a lot of fun on the way to CERES as we rode the bus!
One of the activities was where we learned the ways they recycled water. Like diagonal speed bumps, water consuming roads and rainwater holes. We learnt about the difference between normal roads and the water consuming ones. We tested if it could actually consume the water by getting a cup filled with water and spilling it on the two roads. The water consuming road actually worked! The guide told us that it recycled water because the water that sinked into the road soaked into the dirt and the plants consumed the water in the dirt. And finally, the plants released the tiny water droplets into the air so the water cycle continued. This was only one of the ways they recycled water! The diagonal speed bumps helped because on rainy days when the car’s tyres were wet the water on it would go on the speed bumps and since they were diagonal it would roll down into the plants or the water hole. We walked around to find a place with rocks we could sit on. We each got one plastic card. The cards each had one part of the water cycle, but some cards had the steps of how water travelled from one place to another. We placed the plastic cards in order of how the water cycle works and how the water travels. We now know that it is not as simple as you might think it is. We also figured that there were pipes that got filled with water because when it was raining the house’s roof would make the rain fall into the pipes. The pipes were underneath the plants so they would suck up the water on the pipes and release it into the so the water would not be wasted. We walked once again on the path to the hills. The guide told us that CERES used to be a dump, but they made it a recycling place instead.
For yet another activity we got to go to the muddy water source. We got to learn about water bugs by getting nets and catching the bugs in the water. When we thought we got something in the net we quickly walked to our tray of water and put the things in the net into the tray. We had a sheet that said what bugs we could find. If we had something, we would put it into another tray and make a guess of what bug it was. We also learned that the most common bug was a water bug and a mosquito fish.
The last activity we did was get a sheet of a type of animal, like bugs, reptiles and birds. The sheet said we had to look for the habitats of the animal and the food. We would do tally marks and count the number of the habitats and food of the animal. Then our guide would ask us if our animal would be happy living here. If the answer was no, then they said they would add the things to improve its life there. Then we got to use clay and seeds to make our very own plant.
I had LOADS of fun at CERES and I hope I get to go there again. It was the most fantastic experience in my life!
By Mika Wibowo
Last Tuesday, Year 3 went to CERES for an excursion. CERES is an environmental park and we got there by bus. The trip on the bus was supposed to last for 40 minutes but due to traffic, it took 1 hour or more.
When we arrived, we had our first activity right after we ate fruit. My group made seed balls by putting seeds in clay and made a dumpling and then a cherry. I loved the food cycle. It was cherry, pancake, dumpling and finally back to cherry. We also went on a survey to look for things to improve the place we were in.
Then, we went to have snack and played on the playground until we had to go back to our groups for our next activity. We walked across to the wetlands area to go to our next activity to do. This one was netting and it was just like fishing, but with a net. It was so much fun but we didn’t get any fish/sea bugs and kept getting duckweed and huge clumps of dirt which made the tub of water go black/brown.
After that, we went back for an early lunch and played on the playground once more and headed back to the base for our final activity.
The activity this time was the life cycle of water. We received cards and placed them on the floor, one by one. After doing this, we went on a walk. We discovered why the speed bumps there weren't going across like ordinary roads and where they led to. We even poured water onto a piece of road! Soon we meditated for 30 seconds and headed back to the base.
Finally, it was time to go. We all piled onto the bus and exited CERES Environment Park. I felt disappointed to leave yet happy from all the fun we had, all at the same time.
