INTERSCHOOL SPORT CONGRATULATIONS
Whenever St Peter’s students represent our community we expect that they always do their best and whether they win or lose they do so in a way that would make their parents and school proud.
Last Thursday our Girls Soccer Team competed against a number of other schools and won the final to proceed to the next round. The students and staff present did us proud.
The win was great but more importantly they conducted themselves perfectly when confronted with behaviours that were far from acceptable in one game. We are very proud of the way they maintained the high standards expected from St Peter’s students. Well done!!
TRAFFIC LIGHTS BIGNELL AND CENTRE ROAD

Book Week is from the 19th August until the 23rd August (Week 6). The theme this year is 'Reading is Magic'.
We will be having a Book Fair and a Book Week Parade. The children will be asked to come dressed as their favourite book character on Friday, 23rd. The parade will be at 9:00am. There is no need to go out and buy expensive costumes, just use your imagination and things you have around the house.
Please see below a flyer with information on how to order books online for your children.
VICTORIAN PREMIERS' READING CHALLENGE 2024
Congratulations to all the children who have read and entered books for the Reading Challenge!
Also, a special mention of those children who have written book reviews. Thank you for taking the time to do that - we have been absolutely amazed at how many have been written and have enjoyed reading them. Well done!
The Challenge closes on Friday, 6th September (Week 8) and we need all books to be entered no later than Wednesday, 4th September to allow us time to do the final verification.
Remember you need to read the right number of Challenge books and Choice books to complete the challenge.
All children who complete the challenge will be awarded a certificate of achievement.
Other certificates will be awarded to students who read 50 books or more.
If you have any questions or need help, please speak to your teacher or Mrs. McKee, or contact Sue O’Mahoney somahoney@spbentleigheast.catholic.edu.au
Thanks for your participation and happy reading!
BEACHSIDE DIVISION GIRLS AFL PLAY OFF
On the 25th of July, some of the Year Six girls competed in a Beachside Division Girls AFL Play Off. We played three games and it was freezing! We won our first 2 games but sadly lost our final game which now means that we do not advance into the next gala day.
For our Gala Day matches, we had Jemima Camfield as our captain who led us to our victory in our previous Gala Day. Jemima kept us positive throughout all the games and inspired us to play better. Mr Cavarra was our coach and taught us new skills and better tactics to play the game.
We had so much fun playing the game of footy with our friends and enjoying fun moments in our last years at St Peter's Primary School.
By Antonia A, Alexa D, Eloise WB and Ellie M
We left school at 9.00am and arrived back at 3.00pm so it was a very long day.
Our first game was against Ripponlea - the results were 1-0 and St. Peter's came out with a win. Our second game was against Firbank. Sadly we lost 1-0 to Firbank but we were still in the race to make Finals. To our luck we made the Semis up against Loreto where we came out with a top score of 2-0 to make it to the Grand Final!
The game was massive. All teams were watching and so were all the Firbank parents but we had our mascot Sundae. It came down to the last minute with a penalty shot going our way. Mila scored despite her sore ankle and we won the grand final and now the St. Peter’s Girls Soccer Team is in Regionals!
A big THANK YOU to everyone for all your support and participation on this fun SRC day. Last Friday we raised a total of $632.65, with all funds raised going towards Paralympics Australia. St. Peter's definitely turned GREEN and GOLD on the day in support of our Australian Olympic Team! Check out some of the great photos from our special day.
What is Peer Support?
Peer Support is a student-led approach to wellbeing.
Our Year 5 and Year 6 Senior students are trained as Peer Leaders and lead small groups of younger students in structured sessions.
The Peer Support program provides students with a supportive environment where children and young people develop skills, understandings, attitudes and strategies to improve their mental, social and emotional wellbeing. Positive relationships are developed across the school through a series of engaging activities with a range of students of all ages. The program enables participating students to contribute in an environment where all can join in. Those students helping to lead the program also gain leadership skills.
How does Peer Support work?
Our students will meet in small, mixed level groups in Weeks 5, 6, 8 and 9 across the school. Sessions will run for about 60 minutes using materials from Peer Support Australia. Peer Support Australia’s mission is to provide an evidence based, peer led approach to enhance the mental, social and emotional wellbeing of young people. Peer Leaders run supervised sessions to develop protective factors and strengthen positive relationships across the school. Our student leaders will meet prior to each session and together plan and prepare.
Our 2024 Unit: Stronger Together
The Stronger Together unit has an anti-bullying focus. The students identify their own strengths and then discuss what is respectful and what are unhealthy behaviours and how strategies, including talking to staff and parents can help. The module reinforces some of our schools key values and our policy and procedures.
Week 5 - Session 1 will focus on Feeling Safe - Being Me and Strong Me!

The Feast of the Assumption (August 15) – Holy Day of Obligation
There will also be a special 7pm evening Mass at St Peter’s
Migrant & Refugee Sunday (September 29)
This was a wonderful parish event in 2023, with lovely photos as evidence – it would be so fabulous if we could liaise with you for this year’s celebration of our cultural diversity.
All parishioners will be invited to come to the 9:30am and 10:30am Masses wearing their own national costume.
After these Masses there will be a multicultural food fest, featuring national flag bunting decorations. Parishioners will be invited to bring along finger food from their own national cuisine to share. We request that each dish clearly label the ingredients to assist those with dietary restrictions.
The parish warmly welcomes the school communities to attend one of these three morning Masses and celebrate with us.
New Altar Server Training after 1st Eucharist completion

I have attached the flyer and would be grateful if you advertise this in your school bulletins and encourage the new communicants individually to consider this beautiful ministry of service.
