MESSAGE RE PARENTS AND FRIENDS CONTRIBUTION TO OVAL
With the opening of our long awaited oval space clearly in sight, the many years of fundraising by our school community has allowed us to pay for the purchase and laying of the turf, the installation of the goal posts and the safety netting. At our last Parents and Friends meeting on the 21st of October the committee, on your behalf, approved the transfer of $70,000 to the school to cover these costs. At the same meeting we also approved the transfer of $8,000 (which includes funds from our Mango Fundraisers) which will purchase a half class set (thirteen) Virtual Reality Goggles for use in ICT lessons and in classrooms. As a community we should be very proud that our hard work has brought to fruition the oval space that we will have for our children.
This leaves us with $11,239 which is a great start for next year. We would also like to take this opportunity to announce that in 2025, all our P&F events and fundraising efforts moving forward will now focus towards our next project - fundraising for a new Adventure Playground. Please look out for further information in the coming months.

NEW TEACHING STAFF 2025
I am very happy to advise that we have finalised new teaching appointments for 2025. I would like to thank Chris Joplin and Steph Hunt for their participation and input during this whole process which has taken six weeks from beginning to end. Thank you also to Zoe Power in the office for collating all applications for us to view, Trish Ticca for organising all interview times and Loretta Ballas for organising the contracts.
Announcing appointments has to be co-ordinated between the current school of our new teachers and ourselves so I will be advising of other appointments via email at different times over the next three weeks with a complete summary in a future newsletter.
I am pleased to announce two of the new teaching staff for 2025.
Michelle Cincotta - Michelle is well known to St Peter's as a Casual Relief Teacher and has taught all specialist areas and all year levels in her time at St Peter's. Michelle has accepted a position teaching Thursday and Friday.
Jamie Hansen - Jamie graduated in July this year having completed a Bachelor of Early Childhood and a Masters of Education. Since graduating Jamie has been working as a Casual Relief Teacher. Prior to graduating Jamie worked for a year as a Learning Support Officer at St James Brighton.
We welcome Jamie and Michelle to St Peter’s.
RESIDENT COMPLAINT
I am very disappointed to have received a complaint from a Bentleigh East resident who experienced poor behaviour from St Peter’s students at Centenary Park on Friday afternoon. This has been addressed with students and relevant families today. I ask that if you ever experience or witness poor behaviour by St Peter’s students in uniform at any time that you advise me by email principal@spbentleigheast.catholic.edu.au as soon as possible. It is not acceptable that the behaviour of a small minority damages the reputation that the majority have worked so hard to establish.
WORLD TEACHERS’ DAY (Australia- 25th October) THANKYOU
On behalf of the staff at St Peter’s I wish to thank our Parents and Friends who on your behalf provided lunch for us on Friday. It was greatly appreciated to be acknowledged by the community we serve.

Originally announced to mark the anniversary of the Armistice that ended fighting with Germany in World War I, Remembrance Day today gives us all the opportunity to acknowledge the service personnel who died while serving in wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations.
A reminder that leading up to the 11th November we will be selling merchandise for our local RSL every morning in the Breezeway. Poppies and other merchandise will be available for $2, $3, $4 & $5.
Please support this worthy cause.
On the 10th and 11th of October, the Year Fours went on their very first camp! It was at Mount Evelyn and it was so much fun!
When the Year Fours got off the bus, there was a sense of excitement. We picked up our bags and started walking. All of the classes went into a big hall and started our first activity. I was in group A. On the first day the activities were The Flying Fox, The Reptile House and Archery. Later that evening we went on a night walk and had a talent show.
When we went to bed it was 10:00pm and Kiara, Alison, Ruhi and Chloe Mc were in my cabin. It was very close to luxury.
For dinner we had chicken and rice and for dessert we had ice cream and brownies. It was delicious. Then for Breakfast we had Eggs and Hashbrowns.
After we had candle making and crate climbing. I made a teardrop candle that was a gradient from purple to blue to green. My record for crate climbing was 6. For lunch we had Tacos. Oasis camp was the best!
On Thursday, 10th October Year 4 went to Oasis Camp in Mount Evelyn.
The bus ride was an hour but it was all worth it when we got to camp. We grabbed our bags and walked up the immense hill and then went into the massive hall where the camp leaders told us all the rules and what some of the activities were.
We then did a scavenger hunt where we had to look for things around camp. It was difficult but it was still fun getting to explore camp. After we did the scavenger hunt we ate our delicious lunch and then they read out the cabin assignments.
I was in cabin 18 with Annalise, Mia, Georgie, Louisa, Megan and Caitlin. We put all our bags in our cabins and then went to the flying fox. We had to put on harnesses and then we went on the flying fox. It was AMAZING!
After that we went crate climbing where you had to stack crates and climb them. It was lots of fun. I got up to 10 crates! After crate climbing we went to candle making which was phenomenal.
After that we had an amazing dinner which was chicken and rice. We then did the talent show and the night walk which was outstanding. We went back to our cabins and fell asleep as soon as you could click your fingers.
For breakfast we had hash browns, eggs and toast then we did archery (which was very hard) and did the reptile house where we got to pat and hold lots of reptiles. We then had a magnificent lunch which was tacos and then we went back home on the bus. CAMP WAS BRILLIANT!!!!
Oasis Camp Year 4
Oasis Camp was incredible. The first thing we did was a scavenger hunt, activity 1 crate climbing, activity 2 candle making, activity 3 archery, activity 4 reptile house, and last but not least activity 5 flying fox.
At night we did a night walk and a talent show. The food was delicious, but the dessert was my favourite. The cabins were so much fun because we got to have a sleepover with all our friends. It was so fun, and the instructors were incredibly kind. I loved every bit of it.

SKKT. The bus came “every one on!” Said the teachers. We all gathered on. People started singing Sweet Caroline. Then in a blink of an eye we were there. We cheered and took our stuff to the hall gym. It had a basketball hoop. Then the teachers told us the cabins everyone was excited. We took our stuff and took it to our cabins.
Then we went to the campfire and started our first activity. I started with a crate climbing. We had two people be the people doing the rope job while the others went up. The maximum was 12 crates.
Then we did candle making, which was really calming. We dipped the wick in the wax and then in the cool water. After candle making we had dinner with our tables which was chicken and rice and some greens. Then we had dessert which was ice cream and chocolate brownies.
Then 4MH and 4MM had a night walk. While 4MK and 4OG had a talent quest after we both finished we swapped around. After the talent quest we went to bed and we barely had any sleep. When we woke up we went to have brekkie. We had hashbrowns and English muffins. Then we did archery. Everyone enjoyed it and did a good job.
After that we did the flying fox. We all had a go and had a lot of fun! We all had two turns. Finally we did the reptile house. It was really interesting. We saw snakes, lizards and a cute turtle.
After that, we went to pack up our cabins and went back onto the bus to go back to school.

YEAR 6 EXCURSION TO MCG & SOUTH MELBOURNE MARKET
On Wednesday the 16th of October all of the Year 6s went on a excursion to the MCG and The South Melbourne Market.
At the MCG each class went on a tour, learning about cricket and football. The Year 6s learnt that there were 124,000 seats at the MCG and that Taylor Swift set the record for the most people to attend the MCG with her recent tour. We also learnt that the grounds people had to replace about half of the grass as the crowd ruined it when they stood on it.
After the MCG the Year 6s took a bus to the South Melbourne Market to see many stores. At the market there are stalls such as food, clothes, toys and candles. We walked around the market in small groups and even got to purchase some items.
It was such a fun day out!
Today we had Brett from Cardytoons come over to talk about Stop Motion.
He taught us about being patient and being careful. We eventually made slugs out of modelling clay. We got to have an ipad and we took pictures of the slug, moving it a tiny bit forward each time. We had to move the slug in different positions. It Looks really good at the end and we got to do voice notes. Brett taught us a lot. We felt like he helped us so much.

Today (15/10/24) the Year 3 students had an incursion, about Stop Motion Films. Brett from Cardytoons taught us about FPS (frame per second).
We made colourful plasticine worms. First we made the bodies by making a ball and then rolling out the ends, after we rolled balls for eyes and finally we got either purple or green balls that we rolled into micro pupils.
Once we made our character, we started making our stop motion films. We did this in pairs or trios. You had to pose it over and over to make it look like it is squirming to the other side of the ipad.
Having Brett here was so much fun. We learnt so much and we can't wait to make a stop motion film in 3 weeks time at school!
By Lilah Suttie and Charli Figueirado 3MS
On Tuesday we had an incursion! We were able to learn about stop motion.
Brett, our leader, taught us how to move plasticine slugs in FPS! We used an app to make stop motion videos with our slugs. There were many other features on the app that we used. We got to put our voices in the stop motion video as a voice for the slug. We went in groups of two, or three and did these fantastic stop motion videos while having fun with our group and friends.
We did it in 3ES' classroom. We had lots of fun and got to spend lots of time with our friends, we had the best incursion ever! Everyone had the best time.

On the 15th of October, Tuesday all of Year 3 had an incursion for the inquiry (stopmotion.)
A man called Brett from Cardytoons made an activity which required us to make our own stopmotion film. We were separated into partners to do our film.
We all had to make our very own plasticine worms with 3 colours for the eyes, body and pupils. We were using the ipads and tapped on the stop motion app. We made noises and a short video with the help of Stretch, Squish and Squash.
Using our plasticine figuerines, we made a video about 2/3 worms sliding across tables with additional effects. In the middle part, the worm stopped and said 'huh?' and turned their heads and once again said 'ooohhh!' and scuttled off as quickly as possible. We could name our videos at the end and save.
We all thought that it was amazing, fun and wonderful! We all hope to do it again in the future. Thanks to all the teachers who arranged it.

All of us finished the run in under 6 minutes but it doesn’t matter about your time. I kept thinking “the only challenge is you,” even if you don’t PLAY sport, YOU CAN STILL RUN!!!!
