WORKING BEE THANKYOU
Thank you to all the families who supported the Working Bee on the 18th of October. My thanks also to Andrea Crough, Monica Ryan and Mick Schinck for organising the working bee. A number of tasks have been completed that have saved us lots of money that would have been spent on employing people to do the work. A great outcome thanks to a group of dedicated parents and staff.
DISCO THANKYOU
Thank you to the Parents and Friends for organising a very successful Prep to Year 3 Disco on the 18th of October. Thank you to Anna Pullan, Justin McCarthy and Kye Moore for staying back to support this P&F event. The students had a ball.
MISSION MASS - 23rd OCTOBER
On Wednesday the 23rd of October, the Years 4-6 SRC leaders went to the St. Patrick’s Cathedral for a Mission Mass with the other schools of the Holy Trinity Parish. We arrived at the Cathedral and sat down to have some Morning Tea. We entered the grand Cathedral and sat down at the pews and listened to Senior Church Leaders speak about Children’s Day, and listened to Luke 10:25-37 otherwise known as “The Parable of The Good Samaritan”. The homily discussed the importance of treating people humanely - as they should be treated - like a friend, family or yourself.
After the Mass, we walked to the Botanical Gardens with the other schools of the Holy Trinity Parish and ate our lunch, went for a walk and a bit of a run-around. After that, we returned to school. Overall, I loved our trip to the Cathedral. I learned so much, I would love to do this again!

Last week on Wednesday, 23rd October the Year 4,5 and 6 SRC Reps attended the Mission Mass at St Patrick's Cathedral. 40 schools attended the Mass including representatives from the Trinity Schools St. Peter’s, St Catherine’s and St. Paul’s.
It was an amazing ceremony to be a part of. With the Cathedral full it was an incredible atmosphere. When the ceremony was completed we walked down to the Botanical Gardens to have lunch and look around our city. But after a couple of rounds of Family Feud and running around, it was time to go back to school.
It was a really great opportunity and we would like to thank Mr Dooley and Mrs Stasiak for organising the unbelievable day.

ST. PETER'S FETE - SAVE THE DATE
Thank you to those families who have returned their Raffle Tickets. A reminder that the tickets are due back by Friday, 8th November. If you would like more books we have some available at the School Office. Your support in selling the tickets would be greatly appreciated. A Fete Pack was emailed to families on Tuesday, 15th October with information regarding the Cake Stall, Cup Cake Stall, Bottle Stall and how to order Ride Wristbands for the Fete. Ride Wristbands can only be ordered through FlexiSchools up until 5.00pm Wednesday, 13th November. Please Note that they will be $40.00 if you purchase them on Fete Day.

The Coordinators of this Stall are looking for volunteers on the day of the Fete. If this is something you are good at / enjoy doing please contact Trish in the School Office.

WE ALL HAVE A CHOICE
Last Sunday’s Gospel is one of my favourites. The Pharisee and the Tax Collector is a great Gospel read with a wonderful message. Like many of Jesus’ stories it always has a message to do with CHOICE.
The choice in this story is whether we allow the Eucharist to affect us and change us or whether we tick the box of having done our so called duty.
The Pharisee did what he had to do and was probably more contented in knowing others saw him who were sitting in the temple. On the other hand the poor tax collector was present to his heart and in humility and asked the Lord for mercy.
When we come to share in the Eucharist we are invited to open our hearts to receive the graces God has for us. Being present in this case is not about patting ourselves on the back as if we are superior to others.
This Gospel is a wonderful Gospel to stop us in our tracks and to assess our motives for why we live the Christian life.
Perhaps these quotes from Thich Nhat Hanh, a Vietnamese Monk, will help us reflect further on this short but incredibly insightful Gospel.
‘If you are not yet able to love yourself, you will not be able to love your enemy. But when you are able to love yourself, you can love anyone. When you do this, you will see that your so called enemy is not more or less than a human being who is suffering.’
‘When another person makes you suffer, it is because he suffers deeply within himself, and his suffering is spilling over. He does not need punishment; he needs help. That's the message he is sending.’
‘Sometimes your joy is the source of your smile, but sometimes your smile can be the source of your joy.’
‘To be beautiful means to be yourself. You don’t need to be accepted by others. You need to accept yourself.’
‘Waking up this morning, I smile. Twenty-four brand new hours are before me. I vow to live fully in each moment and to look at all beings with eyes of compassion.’
‘When you plant lettuce, if it does not grow well, you don't blame the lettuce. You look for reasons it is not doing well. It may need fertilizer, or more water, or less sun. You never blame the lettuce. Yet if we have problems with our friends or family, we blame the other person. But if we know how to take care of them, they will grow well, like the lettuce. Blaming has no positive effect at all, nor does trying to persuade using reason and argument. That is my experience. No blame, no reasoning, no argument, just understanding. If you understand, and you show that you understand, you can love, and the situation will change’

‘Drink your tea slowly and reverently, as if it is the axis on which the world earth revolves - slowly, evenly, without rushing toward the future.’
In conclusion, after reflecting, which person are we in this Gospel passage?
Are we the Pharisee in this Gospel?
Are we the Tax collector in this Gospel?
Or, are we both?

BUCKET FILLER AWARD
Katya from 2Gc passed on the Bucket Filler trophy to the next winner at assembly on Friday. The trophy was awarded to Leo Bou Ayache from Prep HP. Leo was nominated for showing wonderful manners on the bus on the way to swimming. Congratulations Leo, what an amazing Bucket Filler you are!

The Magic of Mathematics
Last week we celebrated the Magic of Mathematics at St Peter’s by focusing on patterns
‘Virtually all mathematics is based on pattern and structure. The importance of young children recognising, copying and creating patterns cannot be underestimated as it has been found that a child’s awareness of pattern and structure is directly related to their achievement in mathematics overall. ‘ (Mulligan and Mitchelmore 2009).
Each class also participated in a Numeracy Expo where everyone had the opportunity to play games or solve a problem that required flexible and strategic thinking.

In my opinion the Maths Games Day was a great experience for all the kids involved. One of my favourite games was Rummy-O which was a game of strategy where you had to try and get rid of all your tiles by making runs like 2,3,4,5,6 or by finding 3 or more of a kind - 8,8,8,8. Oliver Selby
Some Insights from Year 3
Here are some insights from the students in 3LK:
Florence Kimball: I liked playing the Rubix Cube Race and I especially enjoyed smashing down the frame down when you matched the colours.
Evie Pelc: I loved playing dominoes. You had to make double facts and the first person to use up all their dominoes was the winner. We created a really long domino train.
Pavlos Dimitriu: Who would have thought that Maths could be so much fun!
Benjamin Leadbetter: I liked Monopoly, although, however whoever lands on the loose change spot generally wins.
Leo Stafford: I liked sequence because you had to flip up a card and place to block your opponent from getting four in a row.

Thanks to all the Preps, Year 1’s, 2’s and 3’s who grabbed their glow sticks and joined us for the school disco on Friday, 18th October.
DJ Ray Ray from Kids Disco Parties got the party started and over 200 of our rockstar students came along and carved up the dance floor with their impressive disco moves!
Many thanks to Mr. McCarthy, Mrs. Moore & Mrs. Pullan for supervising the event and joining in on the dancing fun!

Throughout the last 8 years, St Peter's own Performing Arts teacher, Mr Drew Lane, has been working on a new musical, based on the classic 1984 film "Electric Dreams". In 2011, Drew was granted permission by Hollywood writer Rusty Lemorande to take the original film and adapt it into a musical.
This year, renown theatre company Music Theatre Melbourne (MTM) have decided to take the show to the stage for a special developmental season.
Electric Dreams: The Musical will be performed at Gasworks Theatre, Albert Park, for six shows only, from November 20-24.
The show takes you back to the wild innocence of 1984, and tells the story of struggling architect Miles, who buys a computer to get his life in order. Next door to him, the beautiful cellist, Madeline is moving in and there's an instant attraction. But after a freak accident, the computer becomes suddenly aware and begins to take over Miles' life and love!
The stellar cast is headed by Tom Green as Miles (Miss Saigon; Gladys Moncrieff Award; The Project) who finds a brave new world of love and technology, and Madeleine Featherby (Paris: A Rock Odyssey; Follies; LaTraviata), as Madeleine, girl next door and cellist extraordinaire.
It also features Stephen Mahy (Miss Saigon; Jersey Boys; Mamma Mia; Crossroads!) as Miles' Casanovan best pal, and Angela Scudi (Rocky Horror Show; Thoroughly Modern Millie; Tick Tick Boom), as Madeleine's, the thoroughly modern Millie. Owen James plays Edgar, the computer with human aspirations. Sophie Loughran, Zak Brown, Anthony Scundi, Courtney Smyth and Aidan Nairros round off the cast.
Electric Dreams: The Musical features a brilliantly catchy score and 22 original songs. One of the songs "You Were There" has been selected for an international album release, with vocals to be sung by Claire DeJean who featured on the 15th season of America's The Voice as part of Team Kelly.
Drew would love to see everyone from St Peter's get behind his exciting new show! The cast have been rehearsing right here at St Peter's on Wednesday nights and Sunday afternoons!
