MOTHER'S DAY STALL
Congratulations and thank you to our Parents and Friends for their organisation and running of last week’s Mother’s Day Stall. It was greatly appreciated by our students who enjoyed the opportunity of shopping for their mums.
CAR PARKING ON FLORENCE STREET
Anyone that uses Florence Street for drop off and pick up knows that the actions of a few are putting students and families in danger. I will be contacting Glen Eira Council and the local police at the end of this week and asking them to attend St Peter’s in the coming weeks. To ensure that you do not end up with a fine for illegal parking or a fine and loss of points for a driving offence please note the following.
- U Turns on Florence street are illegal. There are a number of No U Turn signs in place. Completing a U Turn in Florence Street is against the law and if caught will result in fines and loss of points on your license.
- Parking in the siigned parts of Florence Street is limited to two minutes. It is not intended for cars to be left. The two minutes allows for children to get out of cars safely and head into school. Glen Eira Council does not provide written tickets. They record registrations and send parking tickets in the mail.
If you wish to walk your child into school then you need to park in the front car park or in the side streets off Florence Street. All this is to ensure that everyone stays safe.
PRIVILEGE OF PRINCIPALSHIP
Over the last two weeks I have had the privilege of joining two of our year levels as they ventured off site.
I joined the Year Fives for part of their camp to Portsea and I joined the Year Ones on their excursion into the city to attend the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra performance of Peter and the Wolf.
On both occasions I experienced well planned and organised events that were focused on opportunities for our students. For our Year One students it was their first excursion as school students as 2020 did not allow them to go anywhere.
On both occasions the students were a credit to their families, to their teachers and to their school. They were well mannered and our Year Fives were particularly impressive in their care for each other and their commitment to ensuring that everyone enjoyed their time away.
NAPLAN TESTS - St Peter’s approach
This week our Year Three and Year Five students will participate in the Australia wide Naplan tests. Some schools use the Naplan tests as a way of increasing their profile by spending a lot of time in the lead up practicing for the tests and teaching to the tests to ensure higher results.
The approach we take at St Peter’s is to make these tests as low key as possible. We want to know how our day to day teaching is reflected in the results we obtain. It is part of what we do in Term Two rather than a focus of what we do in Term Two. We do provide each student with a juice box and some jelly beans for each test as a way of making it a bit more fun and hopefully less stressful.
By doing this we can use the results to further inform our teaching practices rather than use them for marketing purposes.

Year 5 Camp Highlights
EDITED by Millie & Ben
Wow! What an amazing camp we had! Let us tell you a little bit about it! We had lots of fun activities and ate some nice food! We went on a really cool night walk, there was an awesome campfire and we even had a disco! Read more to find out about the amazing Year 5’s trip to Camp Portsea!

As we got off the bus my jaw dropped as soon as I saw all the activities. The first activity was raft building so we got into our bathers. When we got there we started to build our raft and then we had to test it. After raft building we got some beach game equipment and we went for a walk along the Portsea cliffs. We got to the beach and we splashed and jumped in the water. Then, we did one of the best activities which was high ropes. We had to climb up some pegs on a pole and then balance on a rope. We also got to climb up a boulder wall. Then we did the giant swing. It was extremely tall, and there were levels you could go up to. Next, we did hut building which was fun. We had to use big logs and sticks and make the hut waterproof. Then the teachers got a bucket of water and threw it on our huts. We all got wet!

On the first day we went on a night walk and had a campfire which was beautiful. We were walking on the beach and it was very quiet. When we walked for a little while we sat down for five minutes and listened to the nature around us. We also saw a full moon and to everyone's surprise some people saw a shooting star. When we got back, we sat around the big orange campfire and we had marshmallows. We also got into our activities groups and thought of a song to sing, then we sang the songs out loud to everyone.

On Thursday night after we finished our delicious pasta, we all headed back to our cabins to get ready for… THE DISCO! We were all so excited and ready to dance! We all walked in and started dancing. A lot of great songs came on like Rick Astley’s - Never Gonna Give You Up. We all had a great time and we were all tired afterwards.

Food! Ahhh, my favourite thing to eat. The food at camp was great, other than those chicken sausages, yuck! On the second night we had pasta. It was really good. The breakfast was pretty good, we had cereal and perfectly toasted toast including various types of toppings. The lunch was good too! We had a hotdog with bread and a side of salad. The food was really good and so filling.

We had the time of our lives at Portsea! The activities were amazing and the toasted marshmallows at the campfire were DELIZIOSO (deep italian accent)! The food was great! The nightwalk was spectacular and the campfire was amazing! But the best thing by far was… THE DISCO! Overall, the camp was amazing! Everyone had fun and really enjoyed it.
Thanks Mr. Mac, thanks teachers…. We are pumped and we are ready, bring on Canberra!

This is a call out to all the Dads at St. Peter’s to come and be part of an exciting event in the school calendar. For the past 5 years (Not including 2020) St. Peter’s have played a game of footy against the Dads of St. Paul’s which has been called the Battle of the Saints. With fantastic victories in 2017, 2018 and 2019 we are very eager to make it 4 wins in a row. The game is planned for the first weekend in September and it will be played in great spirit with fun for not only the players but for all the families and spectators who come to watch.
In preparation for the game, the dads get together for training on Sunday afternoons at 4:30pm at Centenary Park. The training sessions go for about an hour with the first session commencing on Sunday, 16th of May. This is a great opportunity to get to know a few of the other dads at school and be part of our amazing community. If you are interested in joining the St. Peter's Footy Team please contact
