Community Engagement Leader
Our first Parents and Friends meeting for the year will be held in the … at 7.00pm on Monday, 28th February, we welcome everyone from the school community to come along, hear about the plans for the year and get involved. It is a great opportunity to meet parents from other year levels and to build connections across our wonderful school community.
We would like to thank Amanda, Katrina and Michelle for their tireless efforts and resilient leadership over 2020 and 2021, and we are very grateful for their continued support of the P&F committee. We have a new leadership team this year, Rahul Dudeja and Colleen Dowling McCarthy - we woud love a third person to join the team to help co-ordinate meetings, minutes and actions through the year.
Colleen and Rahul are excited by the opportunities ahead in 2022 to continue the work of the previous leadership team. If you have any suggestions for what you would like to see from the P&F committee, or have any questions, please reach out via email pnf1@spbentleigheast.catholic.edu.au
We are starting 2022 with renewed optimism following the challenges we have all faced over the past two years and welcome anyone that would like to come along next Monday night. We are so glad to be able to have our meetings back on-site that we are celebrating with wine and cheese (or a lemonade) hope to see you there!
Save the date: Family Fun Night - Friday, 18th March, bring a picnic and have a relaxed Friday night in the school grounds.
ASH WEDNESDAY - 2nd March
Our Year Five and Six students will be attending Mass at St Peter’s at 10:00am. Family and Friends are Welcome to join us in the church.
Our Foundation to Year 4 students will be celebrating an online liturgy at 3:00pm in their classrooms. Families are welcome to join them in their classroom with adults wearing a mask and social distancing. Children and guests will receive their ashes at this time.
MEET THE TEACHER - 3rd March
All classrooms will be open between 4:00pm and 6:00pm on Thursday, 3rd March. This provides an opportunity for students to show their parents and guardians their classrooms and introduce them to their teachers. It also is a time for new students to show their families where their specialist lessons are. During this time I ask that adult visitors wear face masks and maintain social distancing. I look forward to families taking advantage of the opportunity to meet their child’s teacher.
PUPIL FREE DAY - 7th March
Our Pupil Free Day for first term will be Monday, 7th March. OSHC will be offering a full day’s program on this day. My apologies for this change.
PARENTS & FRIENDS FAMILY FUN NIGHT
PARENT FRIENDS FAMILY FUN NIGHT Friday, 18th March
With restrictions lifting our parents and Friends are planning for our Family Fun Night Picnic to go ahead from 5:00pm - 7:30pm on Friday, 18th March. Further details will be in the next newsletter in the meantime put the date in your calendar.
COVID UPDATE
Rapid Tests
Under the direction of the Health Department and Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) twice weekly Rapid tests will continue for all students and staff for the remainder of Term One. New packs will come home for children fortnightly on Monday the 28th of February, Friday the 11th of February (Monday is a Public Holiday) Monday the 28th of March. I ask that you use these tests on Tuesday and Thursday mornings or when your child is displaying any symptoms, for the remainder of the term. If your child or any member of your household tests positive please advise me via feedback@spbentleigheast.catholic.edu.au
Masks
There have been no changes to mask wearing guidelines. I ask that families on site continue to wear masks unless exempt and students from Years 3-6 will be wearing masks in class unless you have advised me of an exception for your child.
Hopefully we are not far away from further changes that will improve the wellbeing of all.
Last Friday night I had the privilege of attending the Star of the Sea Music Fest. It was a wonderful experience and so joyful to watch students engage with each other as they presented house choir, ensemble and dance performances. It is a student led performance and all the students particularly the senior students and captains are a credit to their school and their families.
FRONT CAR PARK CHANGE OF GATE OPENING TIME to 3:15pm
If you or a family member uses the front car park for after school pick up please advise them that from Monday, 28th February the gate will be opened at 3:15pm. Opening the gate at 3:00pm means PE lessons have to move from the front car park at 2:55pm. This impacts on the lessons for students particularly when they are learning basketball / netball skills or any other skills that need the hard court.
Last Monday at 3:02pm we had eight cars parked in Centre Road waiting to enter the school. This impacts on traffic in Centre Road and traffic leaving and entering Bignell Road. At 3:15pm there were 15 cars in the front car park. Entering at 3:00pm gives drivers no significant parking advantage but disadvantages our student’s learning.
PROJECT COMPASSION
Last week the eldest child in each family brought home a Project Compassion donation box.
Donations to Project Compassion allow Caritas Australia, the Catholic Agency for International Aid and Development, to work with local communities around the world to end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity.
The theme of Project Compassion 2022 is ‘For All Future Generations’ and reminds us that the good that we do today will extend and impact the lives of generations to come. It invites us to make the world a better place by working together now and finding long-term solutions to global issues.
Throughout the next few weeks, the students will be "meeting" some of the people whose communities have benefited from the wonderful work of Caritas by watching videos and learning about how their lives have been changed.
We encourage you to put your compassion into action by supporting Project Compassion.
If you have any questions or require additional donation boxes, please let your child's classroom teacher know, or email mgibson@spbentlegiheast.catholic.edu.au
Below please find a prayer you may wish to share with your family as you discuss Project Compassion.
Thank you in anticipation of your generosity.
