STAFF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY - MONDAY, 7th MARCH
Monday, 7th March, St. Peter’s staff engaged in a Professional Development Day looking into the curriculum areas of Literacy and Numeracy and how we are catering for our students in the area of Learning Diversity.
One of the great things about St. Peter’s is the expert knowledge we have in house that can be shared with our staff.
Our Literacy Coordinator Kerry McKee presented to our staff about the science of reading and many different strategies teachers can use to improve student outcomes in reading, writing and spelling.
Our Numeracy Leader Cathy Epstein presented to our staff about students developing self efficacy in numeracy and the different problem solving strategies we can use with them.
Our Learning Diversity Leader Louise Van Corler also presented to the staff about the process of how learning diversity works throughout the school and how we as a staff can better utilise our data which is collected by our fantastic LSOs (Learning Support Officers).
Professional Development days are incredibly valuable to our staff and give us a much needed spark throughout the term to introduce new and outstanding ideas and teaching techniques to improve our practise and student outcomes.
Chris Joplin
Deputy Principal
Teaching and Learning Leader
Our first parent Teacher Interviews will take place on Tuesday, 5th April between 2:00pm and 8:00pm. School will finish for students at 1:30pm on this day. Students who are booked into After School Care with OSHClub will be supervised until 3:25pm. All other students are required to be picked up at 1:30pm.
Separate advice has been emailed to all families today with details of how to book in for your interview. Families can choose to attend Parent Teacher Interviews on site face to face or online via google meet. Bookings for Parent Teacher Interviews open at 6:00pm Tuesday, 22nd March.
With the opening up of travel restrictions some families may plan to take time off school to take family holidays. While it is preferred that holidays are not taken in school time I do understand the need for families to have a break as a family.
If your holiday is for five or more consecutive school days I am required to organise a learning plan for your child while they are away. To ensure we have the time to do this I ask that you advise me via email of any planned holidays that exceed five or more school days at least two weeks before you leave.
EASTER EGG RAFFLE
After the success of last year’s Easter Raffle, the Parents and Friends and the Year 6 students, will again be running this initiative, where half of the funds raised will be donated to the Royal Childrens’ Hospital Good Friday Appeal.
We would be very grateful if you would support this worthy cause that is synonymous with Easter, by selling some raffle tickets.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, 22nd March the eldest child in each family will bring home an envelope with 10 raffle tickets enclosed. Each raffle ticket is $2.
You may wish to purchase all the tickets or get family, friends and/or neighbours involved and ask them for their support by purchasing a ticket or two!
Prizes will be awarded to students who sell the most raffle tickets and additional envelopes can be requested from Trish in the office.
Please ensure the following information is clearly printed on the ticket stub:
- Contact Name of purchaser
- Contact Number of purchaser
All sold ticket stubs and raffle money will need to be returned to the office, in a labelled envelope with the student’s name and class, no later than Friday, 1st April.
Our Easter Raffle will be drawn on Tuesday, 5th April and thanks to all of your generous chocolate donations, we will have some awesome hampers up for grabs just in time for the Easter chocolate feast!
Many thanks,
St Peter’s P&F and Year 6 students

END OF TERM 1 & START OF TERM 2
END OF TERM 1
The last day of Term One will be Friday, 8th April with students being dismissed at 2:30pm.
START OF TERM 2
The first day of Term Two will be Tuesday, 26th April. Monday, 25th April is ANZAC Day and a Public Holiday.
On Friday 1st April, all students in Years 3-6 will participate in the St Peter's House Cross Country at Centenary Park (sand running track). Races will begin at 9:15am and should be completed prior to 11.00am.
The age order will be 8-10 (2 laps), 11 (3 laps), 12/13 (3 laps) in both the boys and girls. Students are to wear their Sports Uniform on this day along with a T-shirt in their house colour and appropriate footwear (runners). They should also have a drink bottle along with any medication they may require.
Students who finish in the top 9 once all trials are completed will qualify for the St Peter's Cross Country Team to compete at the Bentleigh District Cross Country. Students who are eager to prepare for the Cross Country Championships are encouraged to start training prior to the school event.
BEACHSIDE DIVION SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS
On Friday the 11th of March, the Beachside Swimming Carnival was held at Oakleigh Recreation Centre. St Peter's competed in 9 events altogether. Every student gave it their all and did very well in all their events. It was tough, considering we were up against 70 schools and a lot of these schools had their own pools and trained 5 days a week, every week. We were competing as Bentleigh District against other districts like Armadale, Dendy and many, many more.
We all had fun and cheered on our teammates. We are very grateful for the awesome opportunity to compete in the Beachside Division. Also a big thanks to Mr Cavarra, Mr. Mac and all the other teachers who helped to make this possible!

As a bit of fun children are allowed to wear football colours to school on any Monday if their team won on the weekend. It might be a scarf, a badge, a cap, a jumper etc. This is not about having to do anything but just some fun to start the week. This will start next Monday, 28th March.
Last Friday 11 March, we held the Foundation Play & Disco night at Lollipops Playland. Over 120 children and 100 parents attended which made for a very fun and exciting evening. Parents had a chance to catch up and the foundation students had a great time playing and getting to know their friends, whilst showing off their best disco moves.
I am proud to say that $900 was raised from the night. These funds will go towards an interactive and sensory place space for the Foundation students, just outside their classrooms near the boundary fence. Watch this space for more updates on how this is progressing

I have popped this in here as this is my free parent resource that I offer. It has 3 short modules/videos to watch and help parents discover how to have empowering conversations with their child, and how to reframe negative self-talk and how to discover their character strengths.
Confidence Creator - Confidence Workshop
This workshop is about building confidence, identifying character strengths, discovering their core values and learning how to regulate emotions. The content from this workshop is something that I do more in depth in 1:1 coaching.
No Limitations - The Complete Mindset Workshop
This is a shorter style workshop that I offer. It brings children together, to see and hear that other children are experiencing the same thoughts and feelings. It provides them with a safe environment to feel they can share. I found the workshops and working with groups of children to be so empowering for each other.
RAY WHITE CARNEGIE - EASTER COLOURING COMPETITION
Ray White Carnegie is running an Easter Colouring Competition and they would like to extend an invitation to students at St. Peter's. For every student who enters the competition the Office of Ray White will donate $1 to the Royal Children's Hospital Appeal.
There are also 3 prizes to be won
1st Prize - Family Hoyts Movie Pass
2nd Prize - Sherrin Football
3rd Prize - Baker's Delight Package
Winners will be announced on Wednesday, 13th April
If your child/children would like to enter the competition, colouring sheets are available from the School Office. Completed Entry Forms are to be returned to the School Office no later than Friday, 1st April.
It would be great for students of St. Peter's to support the Royal Children's Hospital Appeal.
