THANK YOU
The end of last term was incredibly emotional and challenging for our community. I wanted to thank everyone for your support. It made the unbearable possible. Thank you also to the families who financially supported Ange’s family via the Go Fund me page. The money has been transferred to Michael D’Amelio to assist during this very challenging time.
WELCOME TO ST PETER'S
Staff
At the end of last term we welcomed two new staff members to St Peter’s.
- Dianna Seoud has joined the Foundation Team and will be teaching FDM Monday to Wednesday for the remainder of the year. Since graduating Dianna has worked in a number of schools and we look forward to all she will bring to St Peter’s.
- Ellie Conheady has joined the St Peter’s staff as a full time Learning Support Officer working in the Junior School. Ellie has worked in a number of roles including Disability Support since graduating from University.
We also welcome the Barazi Family to our School Comunity. Ayla 1BP and Adam 3IK with their parents Engy and Mokhles.
UNIFORM CHANGEOVER
The first two weeks of Term Two are a period of transition as students move into Winter Uniform. During this period students can wear Summer or Winter Uniform. From Monday, 9th May all students are to be wearing Winter Uniform.
Students are expected to be in School Uniform every day unless a Casual Clothes Day has been organised and parents informed. Sport Uniform is to be worn only on the day a student is timetabled for sport.
Students must not wear jewellery (apart from a cross around the neck), painted fingernails, eye shadow and tattoos to school. Students with pierced ears may wear sleepers or plain studs. All students who have hair that extends beyond the collar must have their hair tied back.
PUPIL FREE DAY IN TERM TWO
There will be no school for students on Monday, 16th May. OSHC club will be operating a full day program for students on this day.
PROJECT COMPASSION
Thank you to everyone who returned their Project Compassion boxes at the end of Term One. As a result of your generosity $1,116.85 was donated to Catholic Missions on behalf of St Peter’s Primary School Community.

BEBRAS AUSTRALIA COMPUTATION THINKING CHALLENGE
Bebras Challenge - Round 1
The Bebras Challenge is open twice a year to Australian Students in Years 3-12, and engages students' computational thinking and problem solving skills in a fun, interactive environment.
Started in 2004 by Professor Valentina Dagiene from the University of Vilnius, 'Bebras' is Lithuanian for beaver. This refers to their collaborative nature and strong work ethic.
Each challenge has 15 questions with the highest possible score being 135 points. The level of difficulty of a question determines how it will be scored. Easy questions are worth 6 points, medium questions are worth 9 points, and hard questions are worth 12 points. Any incorrect or unanswered questions are awarded zero points.
The Bebras achievement level breakdown is as follows:
- Participation - 0-59 points
- Merit - 60-86 points
- Credit - 87-101 points
- Distinction - 102-113 points
- High Distinction - 114-134 points
- Honour Roll - 135 points
In March a group of St Peter’s students from Levels 3, 4, 5 and 6 were asked to compete in Bebras Round 1 and they are to be commended for the high standard of results.
Particular mention to those who received a High Distinction
Denver Tanti, Woun - Hao Tan, Jaiden Lovell, Dylan Johnson, Declan Gallagher, Xavier Brodrick, Ben Leadbetter, James Caltabiano
Year 5 Portsea Camp, 2022 by Sienna Benvenuto
My top three highlights were
1. The Disco was amazing and so much fun, it was so loud and you could sing along and dance however you liked.
2. I loved making a raft and being part of a team, I also loved how we got to play in the water at the end.
3. The Giant swing was scary but amazing at the same time, it was really high that you could see the beach in your view.
The activity that got me out of my comfort zone was the Giant Swing because the part when you drop felt like you were falling off a cliff without a harness.
I am proud of myself because I faced my fear of some of the activities that I was scared of and I was out of my comfort zone.

EASTER EGG RAFFLE RESULTS
A huge thank you to the Parents and Friends and Year 6SH students for organising the Easter raffle. I would like to thank all our families for their support of this fund raiser. I would particularly like to thank Martha Pavlou (Hugo 1GP) who spent two days organising and putting together the 32 prize baskets.
A total of $6,400 was raised with half of this amount going to the Parents and Friends and the other half was donated to the Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday appeal on behalf of the Community of St Peter's Primary School Bentleigh East.

On the last day of Term 1, Friday, 8th April we held the Year 1 Play & Disco Night at Lollipops Playland. Over 100 children and 80 parents attended which made for a very fun and enjoyable evening.
Not only was it a celebration of getting through Term 1 - the longest time the students had been onsite at school for 2 years, it was a chance for the parents to relax and catch up while the Year 1’s played and showed off their dancing skills.
Thank you to all those who attended, the night raised $1050. These funds will go towards resources for the Year 1 students.
Looking forward to an exciting Term 2!
