P & F TRIVIA NIGHT
The Trivia Night is not far away, Saturday the 18th of June. We have been three years in the waiting for the return of our Trivia Night which has always been a wonderful social gathering. In past years it has been a major fundraiser for the school but the focus this year is on having some fun. Tickets are $25 per person and there are tables of ten. If you don’t have enough people for a table of ten please let Trish in the office know how many tickets you need and the committee will make up tables. Fourteen of the Twenty Five tables are already booked.
PREVIOUS FETE MONEY USE
At last week’s Parents and Friends meeting I provided those present with a brief update of where we are up to with this issue and my suggestion for action moving forward. It was agreed at that meeting that I should write to all St Peter’s families to provide them with a detailed update. I am not including this in this newsletter but it will come as a separate letter via email tomorrow afternoon. Please keep an eye out for this and read to be informed of where we have been, where we are and where I think we should be.
THERAPY DOG
In response to a recent request from our SRC Team, St Peter’s Primary School has decided to have a fully qualified Therapy Dog on site one day a week. The dog’s name is Tito and he has undergone extensive training over the school holidays to complete his certificate in Animal Assisted Therapy. Tito is a Labrador / Golden Retriever who may be familiar to students as he formally undertook his Seeing Eye Dog training at St Peter’s. After being reclassified, Tito has completed his Animal Assisted Therapy Certificate and looks forward to re joining the school community.
His visits to the school community are designed to reduce stress, manage anxiety and build positive relationships with the Dog. In different classroom settings, this will be presented differently. We are looking to have Tito visit classrooms to support in academic progress and ensure students feel calm and happy in the school setting.
If your child is worried about dogs please email your child’s teacher so we can ensure that Tito’s presence does not impact negatively on them.
ANZAC DAY APPEAL 2022
The President and Committee of the Bentleigh RSL appreciate the support St Peter’s provided by selling badges on behalf of the RSL ANZAC Day Appeal raising a total of $336.55. The money raised provides welfare support to ex-service men and women.
CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations to Sophie Lentine (5PH) who participated in a State Development Skills Camp for basketball over the school holidays, and through that camp, has now been selected to participate in the U12 Metro Jamboree in July. This marks her as one of the top U12 Vic Metro players. They selected 80 out of the 300 who were nominated to participate in the high performance skills camp in the holidays.

MOTHERS DAY STALL
On behalf of the students a huge thank you to Angie Leontaritis and her team for organising and running a very successful Mother’s Day Stall. One of the volunteers shared with me the following, “I helped out at the Mother's Day Stall last Friday and I just wanted to let you know that it was lovely to hear all the children use their manners.”
Congratulations everyone.

YEAR 5 & 6 EXCURSION TO IMAX & MELBOURNE MUSEUM
Students in Year 5 and 6 were on the edge of their seats as they experienced IMAX Cinemas and the Melbourne Museum in our study of Sustainability in our unit ‘Think Global, Act Local’. They explored the Museum to understand the history of Dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures on a Dinosaur Walk. Students also explored the Melbourne Story including the discovery of gold and the evolution of life in Victoria. The students were fascinated by the changes in the earth over time and enjoyed discussing geodes and other changes that they could identify.
At IMAX we saw two films which focused on the impacts of climate change and the exploration of volcanoes from the perspective of National Geographic photographer Carsten Peter. The students could not resist the urge to reach out in the cinema with the excitement of a 3D film.
CERES is a great place to learn about the environment and how to look after it. There is plenty to explore and a playground that is made out of 95% recycled material!. A huge compost mixer and a place to make Paper. It is the best place I have ever been to!
There is also a large plastic trap and you really should check it out.

On May the 3rd the Year 4s went on an excursion to CERES. CERES was a Rubbish Dump 40 years ago. CERES stands for Centre for Education and Research in Environmental Strategies.
The Year 4s learnt the 6 Rs which are Rethink, Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rot.
We went along the Merry Creek and collected rubbish. The people working at CERES told us about the Rubbish Trap. They put cameras in 20 plastic bottles and one of them landed in the Rubbish Trap and the rest went into the ocean.
We also made paper and in a few weeks it can be used.
