We look forward to getting the photos back and sharing them with our school community and on our NEW website. Below are some behind the scenes snapshots from the day.

Last week the whole school had St John Ambulance trainers visit their class to conduct their First Aid in Schools Program. The students learnt many important life saving skills and are to be commended on the fantastic way in which they participated. See write ups and photos below:
Last week the WHOLE school had an amazing opportunity to learn how to save someone's life with a First Aid In School Activity. We had a great time and we learned a lot of things. We learned how to resuscitate a person and how to help them when they are choking and not responding. We learned how to do CPR which means Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.
It was full of laughter and our instructor’s name was Sam and we had to learn how to resuscitate Uncle Fred. It was good because it taught us a lot, but also let us have a memorable time. We thank the school for letting us do this amazing activity and we had great fun!

On the 10th of October the Foundation through to Year 6 students took part in the First Aid for Schools Program presented by St Johns Ambulance.
We learned the basic skills for First Aid like the Recovery position. We also did CPR on Uncle Frank, the dummy, where we all got involved and we learned the DRS ABCD-
D:Danger
R:Response
S:Send
A:Airway
B:Breathing
C:CPR
D:Defibrillation
They had games for kids to learn about how to be safe and first aid.
We all learned a bit about First Aid.

GRANDPARENTS / SPECIAL VISITORS DAY
On Friday, 14th October St. Peter's held the Grandparents/Special Visitors Mass & Morning Tea. After a 2 year break due to Covid we had an amazing turnout of Grandparents/Special Visitors come to Mass and visit their child/children's classroom.
The children loved showing their visitors their classroom and doing activities with them.
A very big thank you to the P & F and St. Peter's Staff for all their work ensuring that the morning was such a great success.
On Friday, 14th October we had Grandparents / Special Visitors Day and most people invited a Special Friend or Grandparents to come and have an exciting day. They had lots of fun filling out an interview and seeing all the work we had been doing throughout the year.
Then they went to the Mass and had lots of fun bonding with their grandkids and special friends. After Mass the grandparents went to morning tea while students went out for snack. All the grandparents and special friends enjoyed meeting people and having a good old chat.

This term all classes got the opportunity to participate in Peer Support. It was a good experience for all the students because it gave them the chance to improve their leadership skills, and cooperative skills, it also gave them a chance to make more friends.
The Year 5 and 6 students found it fun to introduce activities that you wouldn't usually do in your class. I believe that it was a perfect lesson that everyone enjoyed.

For the past 4 school weeks the Year 5/6 students have been running a Peer Support program for the rest of the school. After undertaking training, our Year 5/6 leaders organised and conducted a series of sessions for the Foundation to Year 4 students.
The leaders did an amazing job running the sessions and the younger students thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
On Friday 14th October, the Foundation, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 students boogied down and danced their hearts out at the F-3 School Disco!
For some, it was the first disco they had been to, for the Year 3s it was the first time since 2019!
All students received a glow band and danced along with DJBJ who played all the hits including Baby Shark, Shake it Off and even the Macarena! Even the teachers got involved. It was a raging success. Thanks to Mr McCarthy, Mr Lane and Parents and Friends for organising a great time.

YEAR 3 IN SCHOOL ACTIVITY - NATIONAL BIRD WEEK
To celebrate the beginning of National Bird Week, the Year 3s were lucky enough to be visited by author Jackie Kerin and pilot, zoologist and bird enthusiast Milly Formby. Jackie and Milly came to share their inspiration for their new book A Shorebird Flying Adventure published by the CSIRO. Together, the two guests shared their stories of birds, specifically migratory shorebirds, that fly around the world.
Milly is travelling around Australia matching the same distance that migratory shorebirds fly, to help raise awareness of some of the most endangered bird species in the world. While Milly is currently up to month 6 of her expedition, the same distance can be completed by migratory shorebirds birds in just 9 days straight!
Milly even showed us how to draw two different types of birds - the Red-necked Stint and the Bar-tailed Godwit.
Jackie kindly gifted the school two other books - Gold (about the gold rush in Australia) and The Amazing Case of Dr Ward to St Peter’s.
Find those books and two copies of A Shorebird Flying Adventure - all signed copies - in the library.

On Tuesday, the 11th October our school competed in the Division Championships. Everyone tried their hardest and did their best. This included the Year 4s, 5s and 6s competing in Long Jump, Triple Jump and Shot Put field events and the 100m Sprint and Relay Track events.
Luckily, some students in our school have progressed onto the Regional Championships where there are schools from all over Victoria competing and there is even bigger competition. We would also like to thank Mr Cavarra and all the teachers that helped make this possible.

GRANDPARENTS/SPECIAL VISITORS MORNING
A big thank you to all of our families for their support!!
Thank you to all of our volunteers and to every family who donated morning tea for our Grandparents/Special Friends morning on Friday, 14th October. It was a huge event and the wide range and delicious catering was very much appreciated by our visitors.
On Friday, 14th October we also held the Foundation to Year 3 Disco which was very well attended. The children had a ball and it was a great end to a big week.
Thanks to all our volunteers who make these events happen, enhance the school experience for our children and contribute to our wonderful community at St Peter’s!
Orders for our Mango Drive and Christmas Cards have now closed. Thank you to all those who ordered.
Orders for Our Community Table Cookbook will open soon.
We will be putting a call out for volunteers to help distribute the orders when we have delivery dates. If you are interested in helping, or would like to be a part of other P&F initiatives please email pnf1@spbentleigheast.catholic.
Our P&F Committee is looking towards 2023, if you would like to be a part of the team please come along to our next meeting on Monday, 21st November in the room next to the office. All parents are welcome and you would be joining in with an awesome group of people!
CHEESE TOASTIE'/DONUT DAY: Monday 5th December 2022
Historically in Term 4 the P&F usually hold a 'cheese and bacon roll' day instead of the Sausage sizzle.
This year we have decided to try something different and the 'Cheer Cheese Toastie truck' will be visiting St Peters on Monday, 5th December.
You will be able to order your child's lunch via flexischools or a form provided just as we usually do with the Sausage Sizzle.
All lunches will need to be ordered in advance and this will be communicated soon!
Along with the 'Cheese Toastie' you will be able to order a small iced donut and Zooper Dooper.
There will also be a Gluten Free option.
We will be putting a call out for volunteers to help on this day shortly.
We are excited to try something different. If you have any queries please email the P&F email : pnf1@spbentleigheast.catholic.edu.au
