MUMS CATCH UP
The next Mum’s Catch up will be on Thursday, 31st August. It will be held at Coatesville Bowls Club starting at 7:00pm. Drinks at bar prices.
FAMILY HOLIDAY ABSENCES
With a return to normal post COVID some families are taking time off school to take family holidays. While it is preferred that holidays are not taken in school time I do understand the need for families to have a break as a family.
If your holiday is for 5 school days or more, I am required to organise a learning plan for your child while they are away. To ensure we have the time to do this I ask that you advise me via email principal@spbentleigheast.catholic.edu.au of any planned holidays for five school days or more at least three full weeks before you leave.
Thank you to the families who are advising us of holidays as soon as they are booked. It allows teachers to plan effectively for your child’s absence.
PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS
Our second round of Parent Teacher Interviews will take place on Thursday, 7th September between 2:00pm and 8:00pm. School will finish for students at 1:30pm on this day. Students who are booked into after school care with OSHClub will be supervised until 3:25pm. All other students need to be picked up at 1:30pm. This round of interviews is not compulsory and if you feel that you do not require an interview you do not need to book an interview.
There may be occasions where you do not require an interview but your child’s teacher would like to meet with you. If this is the case you will be contacted separately.
Separate advice will be emailed to families next Monday, 28th of August with details of how to book in for your interview. Families can choose to attend Parent Teacher interviews on site face to face or on line via google meet. Bookings for Parent Teacher Interviews will open at 6:00pm on Tuesday, 29th August and close on Wednesday, 6th September at 4.00pm

The next Newsletter will be emailed to families on Monday, 4th September.
Just a reminder: On the evenings, we ask that performers assemble at the 3EM Classroom 15 minutes prior to their performance, already in costume. They can access the outside door to the classroom via the breezeway off the front car park, and staff will be there to usher them in.
The hall will open for audience members 10 minutes before showtime. Entry is free! We can't wait to show you what the classes have been working on!

Congratulations to all the children who have read and entered books for the Reading Challenge!
Also a special mention of those children who have written book reviews. Thank you for taking the time to do that - we have been absolutely amazed at how many have been written and have enjoyed reading them. Well done!
The Challenge closes on Friday, 8th September (Week 9) and we need all books to be entered no later than Wednesday, 6th September to allow us time to do the final verification.
Remember you need to read the right number of Challenge books and Choice books to complete the challenge.
All children who complete the challenge will be awarded a certificate of achievement.
Other certificates will be awarded to students who read 50 books or more.
If you have any questions or need help, please speak to your teacher or Mrs. McKee, or contact Sue O’Mahoney somahoney@spbentleigheast.catholic.edu.au
Thanks for your participation and happy reading!
MATHS GAME DAY AT ST. PAT'S MENTONE
On the 10th of August, 2023 eight Year 5 students got selected to compete at a Maths Game Day.
St Peter’s got split into two teams, Team 1 and Team 2. Team 1 consisted of Jacob W, Woun-Hao T, Dylan J and Zander E. Team 2 was Geneva L, Scarlett P, Charlie L and Marcus T.
St Patrick’s Mentone hosted the competition consisting of fifteen schools around Melbourne. Ms Epstein and Mr Mac took us there and back. We’re going to tell you what activities we did that day.
Problem Solving Booklets
Problem Solving Booklets was our first activity for the day. All the teams were given a booklet. We got four booklets. Each booklet had challenging maths questions that we had to solve.
Games
There were three games that we played when we were there. One of the games was Rowco and the aim of the game was to try to get the highest number overall.
The next game was Prime Climb and then was Mabble which was a maths version of Scrabble.
All in all, we had a great time and are so grateful to have been able to participate in the Maths Games Day.
